The role will be responsible for the development and growth of the Gates portfolio of automotive aftermarket products in the responsible region.

The Role

The incumbent reports to the National Sales Manager - Automotive. Decides on all matters pertaining to product line development and management. The BDM AR executes plans and strategies in line with the country AR strategy with designated channels. Ensuring that Gates has a solid relationship with all major distributors, decision makers and channels in the responsible region and Gates is the preferred brand of choice for all mechanical workshops by delivering market leading products and support which drives demand for our distributors.

Your Responsibilities

The Business Development Manager - Automotive specific responsibilities will fall into the following primary areas:


  • Develops a business plan and strategy for the responsible market that ensures attainment of company sales goals and profitability
  • Develop action plans to penetrate new markets and customers, as well as, expand the number of Gates distributors throughout the responsible region
  • Forecast long and short-range market potential in the responsible region
  • Prepares action plans to effectively identify sales leads and prospects by effectively utilising a CRM Database.
  • Establishes a customer intimate relationship with Senior Management and Decision makers at important customers and/or potential new customers to ensure high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Creates and conducts technical and commercial presentations/proposals.
  • To be the leader in the allocated region supporting and coaching other Automotive team members.
  • Responsible for meeting sales objectives
  • Implements business tools motivating distributors
  • Manages the performance of channel partners
  • Performs key account duties across OEM's
  • Interacts with all company employees in a professional and respectable manner.
  • Completes reports requested by management on time and in an acceptable form including populating a CRM

  • Leads sales activity in designated region / territory
  • Maintains and develops key business relationships across new and existing customers
  • Actively implements the sales plan, seeks new opportunities to grow sales / business
  • Conducts distributor / end user training
  • Conducts other end user activities - site surveys, fleet surveys etc
  • Develops and implements Gates business tools to enhance success
  • Sales recovery actions for off-plan activity
  • Gates Automotive and channel partners reporting
  • Performance plan management
  • Distribution and OEM contracts
  • Actively practices & supports Gates strategic plan

Required Skills And Knowledge
  • Ability to influence high level engagement and relationship building
  • An excellent ability to listen, understand and deliver on customer needs and requirements
  • Computer skill in Microsoft software essential
  • Presentation and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and stay driven & focused
  • Requires a comprehensive knowledge and implementation of sales management, marketing and selling techniques. Must have strong mechanical aptitude and an understanding of the principles of Industrial power transmission applications.

Your Qualifications
  • Account manager/BDM experience in a similar capacity to this position.
  • Knowledge of Automotive Industry desired but not required
  • A mechanical aptitude
  • Technical sales experience
