The Royal Melbourne Hospital, through the North Western Mental Health Programme, provides a comprehensive public eating disorders programme with inpatient, day patient, outpatient and consultation components. We are seeking an experienced senior registrar to work as a key member of our multidisciplinary team. The position will suit a person who has an interest in developing skills in the ongoing treatment of individuals suffering from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and their variants. Frequently psychiatric and medical comorbidity are present.

By working in the programme, you will develop confidence and expertise in the psychiatric care of a range of patients. Experienced consultants will support your endeavours with clear lines of responsibility and consultation available when required. A weekly intake meeting provides an opportunity to discuss problems encountered with patients or systems. Individual supervision will be tailored to meet your training needs. Further, working in the programme will provide you with an opportunity to enhance your psychotherapeutic skills through involvement in individual, group and family psychotherapy. Individual psychotherapy supervision may be arranged. Combining work in the unit with further psychotherapy training may appeal to advanced trainees.

An interest in research will be encouraged and there are a number of potential projects that may be of interest to the successful applicant. This position will provide you with an excellent grounding in managing complex patients in which utilising a biopsychosocial approach is vital. Skills learned in this position will give you greater confidence for work in the private or public sector in your future career.
