About the team

This position is based within the Preventative Genetics Group at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, UWA Centre for Medical Research. The laboratory is one of the world’s foremost research groups in the investigation of the genetic causes of muscle diseases. The Laboratory’s research focuses on disease gene discovery, development of therapies, improved molecular diagnostics and prevention of genetic disorders through preconception and newborn screening.

About the opportunity

As the appointee, you will under limited direction work as part of a team to further the goals of the Preventative Genetics Group, as well as working with other researchers, to provide input into the planning, development and initiation of research designs and protocols and report findings.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant degree qualification
  • Relevant research experience at an appropriate level
  • Relevant demonstrated laboratory experience in cell culture and analysis techniques (including microscopy, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence and transfection) and molecular biology techniques (including PCR, qPCR, western blot, DNA/RNA/protein purification, cloning and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing)
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet and email
  • Highly developed organisational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative and work productively as part of a team
