About The Role

Glen Eira City Council is seeking a knowledgeable and professional Permit Officer to join the Inspections team located at our Works Depot in Moorabbin.

The Permit Officer is responsible for ensuring Council's infrastructure assets are maintained during and following private building works and other permitted uses of public assets. The role is also responsible for the assessment of rectification works following damage to Council assets.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Conduct inspections and record statuses of existing infrastructure prior to commencement of building works
  • Carry out inspections and issue permits associated with road opening permits, drainage connection permits, vehicle crossing installations and temporary crossing permits
  • Identify and investigate breaches of Council's Local Law, the Glen Eira Planning Scheme and the Building Act and Regulations

This role works on a 9-day fortnight from 6:30am to 3:27pm Monday through Friday.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have sound interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with members of the public and other Council staff. Your experience in previous inspection roles will allow you to excel at conducting field inspections and producing reports.

The Following Is Also Required
  • Good computer skills and experience with Geographic Information systems (GIS) and asset management systems, GEAC and the permit system
  • Ability to communicate technical information in a simplified and succinct manner
  • Sound knowledge of the permit system and related conditions that may apply
  • Understanding of Victorian Building Act and Road Management Act and Plan
  • Driver's licence
