About the branch

The Environment and Science Division provides scientific and technical advice and strategic guidance on environment and conservation matters across Parks Victoria and to the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning and other government agencies on environmental conservation policy, funding needs and program delivery. 

The Biodiversity Science unit leads Parks Victoria's biodiversity science program to improve understanding of the status, biology and ecology of threatened and other native species, communities and habitats to improve park management. It includes environmental impact assessment, building conservation and monitoring partnerships, application of new and emerging remote sensing technology and contributing to evidence-based decision making in an adaptive management framework.

About the role and your responsibilities:

As an Environmental Impact Officer, your primary focus of the position is to lead the environment impact team to undertake environment impact assessments for proposals under the flagship projects. The projects are time bound and the position will be required to have a clear focus on delivery timeframes and successful project management. You will be working under the Program Leader Environmental Impact and will be required to perform tasks with a range of project staff to provide authoritative advice and support planning and delivery of projects across Victoria.

Your role will provide technical analysis and policy advice to ensure all relevant legislation, environmental policies and procedures and best management practices have been taken into consideration during the project planning and implementation phase, to mitigate against adverse ecological outcomes.

To be successful for this role you will need:

  • Degree in ecology, environmental science, land management or natural resource management or similar discipline is required
  • Demonstrated experience of project coordination and/or management of multiple competing projects
  • Demonstrated application of environmental impact assessment legislation, frameworks and procedures
  • A good knowledge of Victorian ecosystems and conservation issues and a thorough understanding of legislation and land management principles.
  • A current employee Working with Children Check
