Immediate start for a Legislative Officer within a State Government department

Your new company
Hays Legal has partnered with a regulator within the Victorian state government to recruit for a Legislative Services Advisor. This company work with a wide range of professions with no two days being the same. This ongoing permanent position is available immediately.

Your new role

  • Leading in the development of and/or undertake the quality assurance review of statutory and non-statutory guidance material
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, to identify and understand key issues, needs and concerns, utilising a variety of negotiation, presentation, communication and education techniques
  • Undertake critical research and analysis on relevant academic literature, case law, industry trends and research in other jurisdictions both overseas, nationally and Australian jurisdictions on best practise approaches
  • Prepare and review briefing papers and assist in drafting instructions to define legislation and submissions to government and parliament
  • Lead or provide support in the development of responses to key priority and critical issues as they emerge (e.g. analysis, interpretation and review of legislation, as well as national developments

What you'll need to succeed

  • Minimum 4 years PAE
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in law
  • Current Victorian practising certificate
  • Experience in providing high quality legal policy advise within limited time constraints
  • Ability to maintain trust and confidence with external stakeholders and effectively negotiate
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough research and think laterally and analytically
  • Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills, and interpersonal skills to build and manage internal and external networks and relationships
