THE ROLE 

We are currently seeking an experienced Accountant to join our Finance team in the Melbourne Office. In this role, you will be facilitating Finance functions for the Melbourne Office; as well as provide support for the Sonata Head Quarter in India, regional offices in UK, Japan and Malaysia. This is a Permanent Full-Time position for 38 hours per week, Monday - Friday from 9:00 am - 5:10 pm. Salary Range from $60,000 to $64,999 per annum + 9.5% Superannuation. 


Responsibilities will include:

  • Performing month-end reconciliation duties including various journal entries and balance sheet reconciliation for the Asia Pacific, Europe and USA business units.
  • Preparing the monthly and annual statutory financial statements in a timely and accurate manner, and ensuring that they are prepared in compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Intercompany reconciliation and consolidation for all global entities.
  • Preparing management reports including financial analysis.
  • Participating in costing & pricing, forward estimates, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Performing cash flow planning and management.
  • Conducting internal audit on a monthly basis.
  • Implement, modify, document and coordinate implementation of internal control in accounting procedures.
  • Assisting the Finance Manager with finance process review and improvement.
  • Liaising with external financial agencies on fund arrangement as required.
  • Preparing GST, FBT and payroll tax lodgements.
  • Assisting with payroll functions for the overseas Japan, China, UK and Malaysia entities
  • Assisting with external auditing
  • Managing accounts receivable and accounts payable for the Asia Pacific, Europe and USA business units.
  • Assisting with other special projects as required by the senior management.
  • Other duties as may be reasonably required.


The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum of Bachelor Degree qualification in Accounting
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant Accounting experience in a corporate setting; preferably in the Market & Research industry
  • CPA or CA qualifications completed or partially completed
  • Experience with accounting software; preferably Sage Accpac ERP systems
  • Demonstrated people management experience and training staff as required
  • Extensive experience in preparing financial statements and monitoring performance
  • Experience in international finance and payroll processing
  • Sound MS Office skills, especially the MS Excel and MS Word software
  • Possess an analytical mind with a keen eye for detail
  • Good problem-solving abilities
  • Disciplined to deliver strict deadlines in accordance with internal and external reporting requirements
  • Disciplined in record keeping and filing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, Chinese or Japanese skill is preferable
  • Excellent numeracy skills
  • Ability to work and contribute as part of the team
  • Ability to research into relevant areas of general accounting
