POSITION SUMMARY:

In the context of a whole of community approach, Advanced Child Protection Practitioners have a specific statutory role in protecting children and young people from harm and promoting their rights and healthy development.

The After Hours Service (AHS) is a state wide service that responds to new child protection reports and contacts regarding existing child protection clients made to DHHS out of business hours. This includes the After Hours Child Protection Service (AHCPS), Rural After Hours Service (RAHS), Central After Hours Placement Service (CAHPS), Streetwork Outreach Service (SOS) and Central After Hours Assessment & Bail Placement Service (CAHABPS).

This role is required to operate outside normal office hours (evening and overnight and on weekends and public holidays). Relevant shift penalties apply.

  • All out of hours urgent child protection matters are responded to and managed by the After Hours Service (AHS). This includes receiving and assessing new reports,and conducting urgent visits to assess the risk and safety for a child. This includes responding to cases where existing and new Child Protection clients are at significant risk and require an urgent out of hours response.
  • The Advanced Child Protection Practitioner receives and assesses reports of alleged abuse and neglect of children and young people. They undertake investigations and develop plans to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is achieved.
