The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that our site-based contractors are constructing assets and performing tasks to agreed project requirements and standards.

About MRPV

Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) was established to deliver a multi-billion-dollar pipeline of key road projects across Victoria, including new roads, road widenings, new bridges and major freeway upgrades. MRPV manages complex and strategically important road projects from business case development through to completion connecting local communities and supporting Victoria's growing economy.

The Role

We are now recruiting a Surveillance Manager to join our South-East project delivery team who are delivering over $1.1 billion of capital road upgrade projects. Based in Melbourne's South-East and reporting to the Delivery Support Manager, the primary purpose of this role is to ensure that our site-based contractors are constructing assets and performing tasks to agreed project requirements and standards.

The ideal candidate will have either an engineering design (Quality Assurance) background or will have extensive experience in road and civil structures construction surveillance. Candidates with team leadership experience will also be at an advantage. The ability to prioritise tasks on a risk-based approach, liaise closely with our delivery contractors both from a technical and delivery perspective, and manage the program's Surveillance team will be critical to the successful execution of this role.

This is a 3-year fixed term position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading a team of Surveillance professionals
  • Liaising closely with our delivery contractors in terms of their construction and quality assurance requirements
  • Daily and weekly audit activity of site work, including Inspection and Test plans for earthworks, pavement construction, bridge building and modification and culvert construction, among others, to ensure QA requirements are being met
  • Ensuring other surveillance resources in the program have the support they require to perform their roles effectively
  • Coordinating surveillance work with the individual project Senior Project Managers to ensure best for project outcomes are achieved
  • Ensuring that an appropriate risk-based audit & surveillance program is in place

This role is a mix of ‘hands-on' surveillance on the construction site and office-based responsibilities such as performance reporting for senior stakeholders within the business and some external to MRPV. It will involve responsibilities and deliverables to the internal MRPV team and working closely with the external delivery contractors and stakeholders.

There will be some weekends and late nights required, as is typical for this type of work. You'll also be collaborating closely with Surveillance teams in other programs of work to ensure a structured and coordinated approach to surveillance is created and implemented. 

About you

  • Prior experience as a people leader in site-based Surveillance work (civil, roads and structures)
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence decision makers on construction matters
  • Computer literate, particularly with the Microsoft suite of applications
  • A valid Victorian Drivers Licence
