Tax Manager (CL7)

We are looking for a highly-driven and self-motivated tax manager to assist in our overall tax management. Based in Australia and reporting to the ANZ Country Controller. You will be the one of the key members on all Australia and New Zealand tax matters and deeply involved in the colloboration with Global tax, Controllership, and Finance leaders to anticipate and identify tax issues, recommend solutions, research and solve problems. This position will be a key contributor in efforts to improve and create processes that ensure the accuracy and completeness of all tax positions in Australia and New Zealand.

The ideal candidate should possess strong knowledge in Ausrtalia and New Zealand tax areas as well as excellent business judgment and communication skills, a proven track record of building relationships and delivering strategic value to the company, and has the ability to influence strategic thinking and business decisions.

Overall responsibilities:

Tax compliance


  • Liaise with external tax advisors and statutory authorities in relation to technical and compliance issues in Australia & New Zealand.

  • Manage tax reviews and audits together with global tax and interactions with tax and revenue authorities.

  • Identify, provide clear advice and research to the country controller and to other internal clients about complex taxation issues, recent legislation and administrative decisions that impact the business as they occur and/or on request.

  • Research and provide advice/recommendations on the tax implications of non-standard transactions including income tax, withholding taxes, GST and FBT.

  • Work with relevant stakeholders to coordinate, prepare, review and lodgement of all required tax filing for acquired entities from mergers and acquisitions in Australia & New Zealand.

  • Income Tax

  • Coordinate the timely collection of data and information, preparation, review and lodgement of the annual income tax returns and supporting schedules for Accenture Australia MEC Group, Avanade Australia and Accenture New Zealand.

  • Calculate entity tax provisions and true-ups for Accenture Australia, Accenture New Zealand, and Avanade Australia in accordance to Accounting Standards.

  • Review the monthly interest and royalty withholding tax calculations and returns.

  • Indirect Tax / Other Taxes

  • Review monthly Business Activity Statement (BAS) workpapers for Accenture Australia, Accenture New Zealand and Avanade Australia and undertake internal controls testing to ensure the integrity of the BAS preparation process.

  • Coordinate the data collection, analysis and compilation and review of Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) files and associated documentation provided from internal sources, and manage the timely lodgement of the FBT returns for Accenture Australia, Accenture New Zealand and Avanade Australia.

  • Global and Business Reporting

  • Coordinate the preparation and review of taxation reports as requested to meet global or business reporting requirements.

  • Manage work in specific projects and government reporting as required.

  • Post deal tax management for Merger & Acquisitions companies.

  • Tax process improvement and management

  • Coordinate work assignments and training calendar of the tax team in order to complete deliverables in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Provide day-to-day operational guidance to controllership team and timely address cross-functional inquiries.

  • Work with finance and global tax to implement and improve end-to-end tax process and procedures to mitigate risks.

  • Evaluate and identify opportunities in improving the compliance processes to ensure efficiency, decrease cost and facilitate tax planning.

  • Foster good working relationships with internal staff to provide appropriate and timely input to enable compliance obligations to be met.

  • Monitor tax related legislative and regulatory developments that may affect the company.

  • Keep good relationship and regular communication with local tax authorities.

  • Manage work of external advisors to ensure the timely deliverables with high quality.

  • Experience in managing complex project with multiple stakeholders and teams and conduct effective communications and alignment

  • Qualifications

    Education & Experience

  • Commerce/Accounting degree preferable with minimum of 6 years work experience in an accounting/tax function;

  • CA or Master of Tax is highly preferred;

  • High level of Australian and New Zealand tax knowledge with concentration in the tax governance framework plan, Income Tax, GST and FBT field;

  • Experience with tax assurance review and audits;

  • Knowledge of accounting principles;

  • Computer literacy - Word, Advanced Excel, Access and familiarity with financial information
