JOB DESCRIPTION

Immediately available Investigation and Litigation Advisor position with a state government department.


Your new company
This position will see you working within a State Government department. Based in Melbourne's CBD, you will be working with a well-established public sector team.

Your new role
In this role, you will be responsible for providing high quality legal advice and assistance in advocacy. The role will see you working on projects including the development of frameworks and guidance tools. In addition, you will:

  • Provide timely, expert and outcomes focused legal advice on disciplinary matters, civil procedure, evidence and other matters.
  • Identify areas for review and recommend initiatives to respond to regulatory issues.
  • Appear in the Tribunal and in Courts from time to time
  • Participate in, and lead cross-functional working groups to support the strategic objectives of the organisation.
  • Keep abreast of changes to legislation and case law across different jurisdictions.
  • Proactively provide practical support, mentoring to other staff to develop their advocacy or investigations skills, knowledge of administrative law and civil practice and procedure.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered you will have:
  • PAE of at least 3+ years
  • Extensive experience in conducting complex litigation
  • Strong background in interpreting and applying legislation, case law and legal principles
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communications skills, including a proven ability to draft complex advice and other legal documents
  • Highly developed analytical skills including a demonstrated ability to conduct legal research and draft succinct and well-reasoned memoranda of advice and reasons for decision
