About CPBJH JV

CPBJH JV brings together two of Australia's leading construction partners, CPB Contractors and John Holland, with unparalleled expertise in large-scale and complex project management, civil construction, traffic management and tunnelling.

The West Gate Tunnel is a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban. The Joint Venture has been chosen as the contractor for construction, which began in early 2018 following planning assessment.

About The Project

The West Gate Tunnel Project is a city-shaping project that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, provide quicker and safer journeys, and remove thousands of trucks off residential streets. The project will include:

  • Widening the West Gate Freeway from eight lanes to 12 between the M80 Ring Road and Williamstown Road;
  • Building a 2.8km eastbound tunnel and a 4km westbound tunnel under Yarraville;
  • Constructing a bridge over the Maribyrnong River providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge;
  • Constructing an elevated road along Footscray Road to the Port of Melbourne;
  • Major new cycling and pedestrian paths.

Your New Position

As the Sustainability Maanger you will lead, manage and drive the project sustainability requirements by ensuring that the project delivers sustainable outcomes that are of value to our customers and meets its contractual obligations.

Further Key Responsibilities Will Include
  • Define the project specific sustainability objectives and targets and ensure that there is a strategy in place to achieve targets and the project's contractual obligations.
  • Develop, implement and review the project sustainability management plan, tools and associated procedures.
  • Provide leadership and technical direction to design, construction, commercial, operational and other key project teams in relation to sustainability requirements
  • Build and maintain strong relationships through collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders in particular Transurban and ISCA
  • Continually monitor, measure and evaluate the project’s sustainability performance and improve project practices and the Sustainability Management Plan, policies and processes and procedures, to gain optimal outcomes on the project
  • Conduct annual management review of the Sustainability Management Plan and report to senior management.
  • Report against the project sustainability objectives on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis to management, senior management and the client as required


About You

To be successful you will ideally have the following experience and capabilities:
  • Bachelor of Engineering, Science, Sustainability or other associated disciplines required
  • Post graduate qualifications e.g. Masters in Engineering, or Graduate Certificate or Diploma in Risk, Sustainability, Project Management or other associated disciplines desirable
  • IS Accredited Professional (ISAP)
  • Construction sustainability management
  • Specialist environment management
  • Specialist sustainability management
  • Sound understanding of sustainability and environmental principles and application within the construction industry
  • Understanding of Federal, State and local environmental statutes and legislation
  • Understanding of sustainability rating schemes and standards
  • Knowledge of tender requirements, project planning, development, implementation and review.
