Position Summary

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and experienced Exercise Physiologist to join our Austin Health Physiotherapy Department in a Fixed Term, Part Time position until the end of June 2021.

This position is based within Austin Health’s Physiotherapy Department. The Physiotherapy Department comprises about 92 EFT staff at the Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre. It provides seven days per week, 12 hours per day services to acute and aged care areas. There is also a seven day a week primary care service for soft tissue injuries in the Emergency Department.

Details of position/position requirements

Cardiac rehabilitation, heart failure rehabilitation, and pulmonary rehabilitation multi-disciplinary programs: * Provide appropriate patient care including assessment and exercise prescription in conjunction with other treating team members.

  • Generate cardiac rehabilitation referrals and provide cardiac rehabilitation education to cardiac surgery inpatients.
  • Appropriately assess and treat patients referred from Physiotherapy and other Allied Health staff as appropriate. This may include 1:1 patient treatment, group exercise programs or Telehealth interventions.
  • Liaise appropriately with patients’ family, care-givers and/or relevant others to promote patient care.
  • Appropriately document patient management.
  • Liaise with and refer to other personnel and/or institutions as appropriate.
  • Provide education on physical fitness and exercise to other patient groups as indicated.

Ability to provide physical intervention for a wide variety of clinical conditions.
