About us:

This role operates within the Office of the COO, which is a part of Jurisdiction Services (JS). JS provides support to all Victorian Courts and Tribunals to assist in the delivery of justice services. JS is responsible for providing courts and tribunals with a range of corporate support functions including human resources, finance, facilities, asset and contract management, planning and administration, business intelligence, communications, business review and improvement, technology and transcription services.

The Koori Unit is responsible for providing consultancy, advisory and education services that increase positive engagement with Victorian Aboriginal communities and other stakeholders to deliver effective court initiatives. This includes providing detailed advice and guidance to staff within Victoria's courts and tribunals about working in the justice environment, providing education and skills development to staff, informing and influencing policy and legislation regarding outcomes for Aboriginal people, managing the secretariat and associated actions for the Aboriginal Justice Forum, and consulting with the Aboriginal community.

About the role:

The Research and Policy Officer is a fixed term role that will be responsible for supporting the Director/Manager to undertake key research to inform the Courts Koori Portfolio Working Group to include Koori Programs on County and diversions-based initiatives. This role will also support KU and the Koori Managers Group to prepare ongoing data paper for the Aboriginal Justice Forums. This position is an Identified position in accordance with the Court Services Victoria Aboriginal Employment Policy.
