Owing to client demands an exceptional opportunity is now available for a talented Planning & Environment Lawyer to join a well-known & highly successful, CBD based, commercial law firm.

This leading Government, Planning & Environment team offers a full range of services and is one of the largest and most respected planning & environment teams in Melbourne. Their range of experience covers acting for state and local government authorities, as well as private clients across a broad range of industry sectors.

About this role...
In this role you will be working closely with senior practitioners

  • advising & representing statutory authorities, government bodies and private clients in respect to all aspects of statutory and strategic planning, environmental regulation and related areas of property law.
  • Represent clients before the VCAT, Magistrates Court and the Supreme Court(s), in respect of statutory decisions (ie. approvals and enforcement).
  • Analysing technical environmental assessments and providing legal advice in the context of legislative framework, common law and commercial considerations.

Key to success in this role is:-

  • 3-4 years experience in a similar role;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Court rules, processes & relevant Acts (Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act; Planning & Environment Act; Water Act etc.);
  • Excellent drafting skills; 
  • Sound understanding of environmental contamination, waste and resource recovery and statutory approvals for industrial and property development;
  • Well developed communication and organisational skills, a proactive client-focussed approach and ability to manage competing priorities;
  • Team-oriented and a strong desire to develop your career in this niche field of practice.
