Established in 1824, our client is Australia’s largest integrated cattle and beef producer and the oldest continuously operating company in Australia.

 Today, they own and operate a range of properties, feedlots and farms comprising around 6.4 million hectares of land in Queensland and the Northern Territory and specialise in grain fed beef and Wagyu beef production.

They are currently looking for a skilled and effective Farm Hand for their feedlot based 50km from the busy rural town of Emerald.

The Role

Working closely with the Farm Manager, you’ll be responsible for carrying out the day to day activities for the efficient running of the farm. This is an exciting and really diverse role that sees you operating a range of farm machinery, performing maintenance on equipment, irrigation and record keeping for a range of tasks.

In return for your great work, you’ll be rewarded with a competitive salary, plus house and utilities. Your duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Organisation of materials and equipment for daily activities
  • Perform daily checks and services to all machinery – greasing, water, washing, tyres, logbooks
  • Maintenance of equipment
  • Tractor operation (articulated and 4WD) – ploughing, fertilising, spraying, ripping, slashing and fork work for unloading and loading pallets
  • Workshop procedures – welding, steel cutting, drills, airtools etc, plus workshop cleaning and maintenance
  • Chemical mixing
  • Irrigation procedures – soil moisture, water testing, fertigation,

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar position who is mechanically minded, handy on the tools and has a wide range of skills that can be applied on the job.

You’ll be a good team player, committed to the job and always ensure that safety is of the highest priority at all times. To be considered for the role, it’s important you can address the following criteria:

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Plant operations/tractor ticket or relevant licencing
  • Great working knowledge of farm operations, machinery and earth moving
  • Mechanically minded
  • Ability to work both alone and as part of a team
  • Mature and rational approach to problem solving
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of company policies and procedures
  • Physically capable and able to withstand changing conditions
