About the Project

McConnell Dowell is the constructor within the Western Program Alliance (WPA) which forms part of the Victorian State government's ambitious level crossing removal program. The Alliance brings together the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP), Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM), and Arup and Mott MacDonald as design partners.

WPA was formed in 2017 and following the successful completion of several major projects, is now focused on delivering the level crossing removals at Werribee (Werribee Street & Cherry Street), Hoppers Crossing (Old Geelong Road) and Cranbourne (the Cranbourne Line Upgrade), as well as developing future works projects.

Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking applications from highly skilled individuals with operational experience in the application of quality management principles in the construction industry to join us at Cranbourne Line Upgrade in the position of Quality Engineer.

You will ensure compliance with endorsed procedures and management plans and support construction and engineering for project completion activities.

As Quality Engineer, you will be accountable for:

  • Identifying non-compliances and instigate corrective actions as required

  • Reviewing and confirming adherence of construction verification processes

  • Being the "window person" for the project by coordinating corrective actions for outstanding issues

  • Driving the collation of construction entity data and deliverables to achieve the Project's certification and QA needs

  • Providing advice and support to the Quality Manager for the development, implementation, review and revision of the Project Execution Plan (PEP) and attachments

  • Interacting with Managers and Engineers to implement and coordinate the Project Execution Plan (PEP) and attachments

  • Reviewing subcontractor/supplier quality systems

  • Compiling and maintaining quality records

  • Coordinating on site quality assurance and control activities

  • Reporting on quality related matters to the Quality Manager, including preparation of monthly summary reports

  • Promoting quality awareness with project personnel

  • Interacting with other Managers and Engineers to facilitate implementation of corrective actions identified from surveillance audits

Requirements for this role are:

  • Tertiary Degree qualified in Engineering, Construction, Building Sciences, Architecture or equivalent experience

  • Proven experience working in the construction industry

  • Competent user of inhouse software with working knowledge of wider applications

  • Sound communication skills and ability to form relationships with both internal and external parties
