About Department

St Vincent’s Cardiology is one of the leading clinical cardiac services in Australia. We offer comprehensive cardiac services with our consultants established at the forefront of cardiac technology. Our services are provided for outpatients & inpatients through St Vincent’s Heart Centre & the Cardiac Investigation Unit, and the National Centre for Sports Cardiology (NCSC), all located on the St Vincent’s Fitzroy campus.

The NCSC brings together three leading organisations. The combined expertise of St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and St Vincent’s Institute, the NCSC harnesses national leaders in the clinical and research specialty of sports cardiology.

The Cardiology Department provides a full range of both invasive & non-invasive investigations and procedures including cardiac catheterisation and intervention, cardiac implantable electronic device implantation and checks, structural heart program and international leading research. You will be involved in performing echocardiographic examinations on patients in our outpatient and inpatient services.

Additional opportunities may exist to work at our Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institutes performing clinical and research based echocardiographic studies.

Ongoing support is provided to our clinical staff to further advance their skills with support in approved higher education courses and attendance to conferences.

About the Role

Grade 3 Cardiac Sonographer, under the guidance of the Operations Manager and/or Directors of Cardiology & Non-Invasive Cardiology, w ill be responsible for the day to day best practice delivery of expert clinical care in the areas of electrocardiography, stress testing & the Echocardiographic Laboratory and relevant administration. The Cardiac Sonographer will be responsible for ensuring their own professional development in order to maintain clinical skills and knowledge.

Consideration would also be given to a Grade 2 Cardiac Sonographer who is completing their final year of their postgraduate qualification in Cardiac Ultrasound from QUT or DMU. Opportunities to further develop your understanding of advanced imaging techniques in cardiac mechanics, 3D and contrast imaging exist.

Classifications for this position will range from classification range from S057 - SO60 ($93,860.00- $107,234.40 per annum).

Duties

  • Work collaboratively w ith other members of the clinical or administrative team to ensure that service requirements are met and that patient care is seamless at all times.
  • Provide assistance to all patients during their tests, showing professionalism, empathy and understanding at all times and providing explanations as appropriate.
  • Undertake a range of echocardiographic investigations at an expert level as per rostered requirements, in accordance with evidence based practice, prescribed professional and ethical standards:
  • Develop competency in all the administration duties required in the Cardiology Department
  • Attend weekly internal education sessions (a minimum 80% of departmental activities such as staff meeting and educational programs)


Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science
  • Post Graduate Studies in Cardiac Ultrasound or course equivalent
  • Cardiac ultrasound qualification from Queensland University of Technology or ASUM
  • Several years post graduate experience as a Cardiac Technologist
  • 2 years as an Accredited Cardiac Sonographer (ACS)
