JOB DESCRIPTION

The Electronic Instrumentation and Controls Technician is a pivotal role responsible for the testing, maintenance, and optimal operating performance of our electronic technologically advanced cherry grader at our fresh produce packing facility located in the Yarra Valley, Victoria. 

Working with our state-of-the-art electronic technology to drive maximum efficiency in the production process through collaboration with a cohesive operational team to deliver high-quality fresh cherries in a safe and efficient manner. 

This role will ensure that Unitech sorting technology is maintained and calibrated to provision optimal packing operations quality and performance.

Due to the nature of our produce this role is critical to ensuring we process and package cherries at the maximum quality and freshness to our customers.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Conducting inspection of all electrical, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic elements of sorting machine.
  • Replace, repair, and calibrate sorting machine in line with annual maintenance schedule.
  • Installation of software upgrades for electronic instruments and control systems as per manufacturers advice (Unitech).
  • Order any requisite component parts or software to facilitate maintenance.
  • Conduct post maintenance activities to test commissioning and maintenance control systems:
    • Reassemble and test all operating systems.
    • Make program adjustments in line with any updates to changes such as pack size and packing materials.
    • Ensure any changes to Quality Assurance processes are imbedded in machine software and equipment. These may include elements such as batch tracking and food handling guidelines.
  • Daily review of sorting and packaging systems to ensure sorter is performing with optimal accuracy and output.
  • Perform pro-active testing and monitoring to diagnose any potential mechanical, electronic, electrical or software faults.
  • Take immediate actions to mitigate any machine downtime which would impact customer delivery schedules.
  • Produce maintenance schedule for all critical equipment and provide contingency plan to minimise potential downtime.
  • Actively contribute to daily pre-start meeting for the production team, including safety discussions, daily task allocation and communication of critical information (e.g. grader operation, quality conditions, production schedule)
  • Liaise with Production Manager, Maintenance crew, Quality Control and Operations team to ensure cherry pack outs are coordinated, with appropriate efficiency standards.
  • Work collaboratively with Packing and Operations Manager and Quality Control Technician
  • Coach and mentor other Maintenance Team Members in regarding maintenance operations.
  • Maintain effective stakeholder engagement and liaison with external partners (Unitec).
  • Follow safe work practices, procedures, instructions, and rules.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years’ technical expertise in Unitech Grader maintenance.
  • Ability to collect operational data and apply appropriate analysis.
  • Ability to test and diagnose electronic and software issues.
  • Background working in fresh produce packing operations preferred.
