ANZ Core Systems is a conglomerate of applications that manage deposits, savings, loans, debit and credit cards, transactions and customers. Servicing multiple business units and tribes across ANZ, we run mission critical applications for the bank and this brings serious challenges to solve and engineer.

It’s not about getting something perfect, but about constantly testing and iterating. At other times you will deliver using a more traditional waterfall approach to software development and delivery

  • Own it. Most importantly, you’ll get to deliver end to end service, and shape how ANZ delivers on their commitment to providing great customer service through technology.

    What will your day look like?
    • Actively engage in the entire software delivery lifecycle (consult, design, build, test, implement, monitor and refine) for services of large and complex applications.
    • Manage incidents/problems, apply fixes and resolve systemic issues.
    • Understand business and technical requirement, prepare program and technical specifications and diagrams
    • Design, build and support applications on both legacy mainframes and modern open source technology stacks
    • Perform design and code reviews and be involved with design discussions about architecture, data models and business logic
    • Code, script, automate and test using primarily COBOL but also over time various languages (JavaScript, Shell, REXX, Python etc.)
    • Monitor customer satisfaction and draws on understanding of customer to deliver customer centric solutions and achieve positive outcomes
    • Explain technical terms and systems to others
    • Understands, accepts and supports the need for change and adapts own behaviours to changing circumstances and constructively provides input to change projects
    • To assist with Source Management responsibilities for Installs, helping the Squad to migrate their changes into production

    • Proven analytical skills and data-driven decision making
    • Have a thirst and willingness to expand knowledge with new technologies bringing benefits into Core Systems
    • Experience in Source Configuration Management and production deployment processes
    • Exposure to mainframe API design/development methodologies and techniques will be an added advantage
    • Obsessed with software engineering excellence and new methodologies
    • Interest/curiosity in key Cards, banking and finance industry trends & market research data
    • Draw insights from research materials and develop customer led initiatives
    • Uses an understanding of others’ point of view and empathy to gain buy-in to develop existing relationships and help build new ones
    • Willingness to build competency in their discipline


    You Will Have The Following Specialised Skills-
    • Proven knowledge of “Cards domain on VisionPlus” and/or “Core Banking on Hogan”
    • Highly skilled in debugging techniques in the above systems using tools such as Compuware xPediter, Mainview, System log analysis etc.
    • Extensive experience in design, build and testing of both online and batch systems
    • Understanding of open source technologies and tools
    • Experience in designing and building monitoring models using Splunk
