About us

The Fines, Registration and Crime Prevention group enhances community safety and wellbeing through public policy, governance and legislative advice and reform, provision of registry and adoption services, and worker screening services, community crime prevention advice and programs, efforts to counter violent extremism and management of the end-to-end infringements system and enforcement activities.


About the role

The Senior Strategic Advisor is responsible for supporting the Deputy Secretary and Executive Leadership Team to lead and manage priority initiatives, provide strategic advice, establish effective process and governance mechanisms, manage key stakeholder relationships and improve collaboration and innovation across the group and the department.

The Senior Strategic Advisor is also responsible for coordination and management of the workflow of the Office of the Deputy Secretary and Group, including monitoring and management of key deliverables and the Group's contribution to the Statement of Direction and the Department's Corporate Plan.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Coordinate workflow of the Office of the Deputy Secretary and the Group to determine priorities and ensure actions are completed and products delivered in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate divisional input into cross-departmental information and business requests ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and quality of contribution.
  • Develop, maintain and enhance key relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including ministerial offices, other government departments, external organisations and agencies, and other Department of Justice and Community Safety staff.


About you

As a Senior Strategic Advisor, you will possess:

  • Demonstrated experience working at a senior level supporting government executives.
  • Proven ability to perform effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated sound judgement and political nous; an understanding of the department's structure, responsibilities, climate, and culture to assist in developing appropriate responses.
  • Demonstrated policy and project management capability, including the ability to achieve objectives within tight timeframes, and actively engage internal and external stakeholders.

A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent work experience in a similar role would be highly regarded.
