The Quality and Patient Information Division provides leadership for the nursing workforce throughout Bendigo Health as it led by our Chief Nurse and Midwifery Officer. Nurses are the largest work group within Bendigo Health and the division has a keen focus on supporting our nursing workforce to feel valued and empowered to provide excellent care. Health Information Services (HIS) provides a range of services for Bendigo Health including:

  • specialised management of health information and medical records;
  • clinical coding and expertise in clinical classification and activity based funding models;
  • clinical documentation education and support;
  • statutory data reporting compliance mandated by Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) policies and business rules;
  • data quality responsibilities across Bendigo Health to maintain integrity for internal and external reporting;
  • medical records form design and records standards;
  • Freedom of Information (FOI) responsibilities and Release of Information (ROI) for general practitioners and external health care providers; and
  • medical transcription services
  • requests for medical records and request for other information and privacy.
The role of the Health Information Services is to provide accurate and timely patient information to wards, the emergency department, and outpatient clinics and to aid the continuity of patient care within the community by providing patient information to General Practitioners and other authorised organisations. The Health Information Support Officer (HISO) is responsible for providing administrative services for all facets of health records at Bendigo Health. Selection Criteria


01.Completion of a Certificate III Business Administration course and/or relevant


02.Demonstrated high level of computer skills including the ability to operate multiple Microsoft Office Suite products and various other in house programs and databases


03.Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to take the initiative and make decisions within delegation level


04.Demonstrated ability to embrace and respond positively to change


05.Demonstrated ability to enter data accurately and rapidly onto a computerised system


06.High level communication skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with a cross section of staff


07.Demonstrated ability to work in a team and in close cooperation with others in an office setting


08.Sound knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the Health Records Act and Privacy Act


09.Knowledge of Health Information Services and medical terminology


10.Previous administration experience in a healthcare environment
