The Project:

The Early Works package involves performing services in two phases of planning and delivery, the majority of which comprise utility services under a Managing Contractor arrangement.

Works include the design, development and removal, relocation and/or protection of utility services including 220 KV transmission towers, other electrical assets, telecommunication assets, water and sewerage assets, and drainage and gas pipelines. 

Construction on the Early Works package has commenced and is set to be completed in 2022. 

Your Opportunity:

Based in the Heidelberg project office, you will report to the Stakeholder and Community Relations Manager, and work as part of a team responsible for leading the development and delivery of internal communications activities and programs as outlined in the NEL Early Works Communication and Community Engagement Management Plan.

As a Stakeholder and Community Relations Advisor, you will be accountable for:

  • Day to day management of stakeholder and community issues associated with the works – including the development of communication materials, communication and stakeholder engagement strategies for specific issues

  • Manage and record stakeholder enquiries/complaints received through the project enquiry line / project email / other channels – including being available 24/7 to respond to enquiries when rostered at times

  • Understanding contractual requirements in relation to the community and having a strong understanding on how to effectively handle community concerns proactively

  • Preparing and maintaining accurate records on community relations issues and reporting key findings/status/trends on a monthly basis

  • Consulting with the Project Team on the program of works and develop community engagement action plans to identify and anticipate community concerns and to understand the priorities and requirements.

  • Work closely with the construction team to understand the construction program, identify potential stakeholder impacts to develop community engagement action plans to communicate upcoming works and mitigate potential impacts

  • Develop effective communication materials, work notifications, fact sheets, presentations and display materials to support the Community and Communications Engagement Plan

  • Assist with providing clear, consistent and informative internal communications across the entire project

  • Provide support to the wider Community Relations Team as required

  • Plan and participate in information sessions, neighbourhood meetings, site visits and stakeholder presentations

Our minimum requirements for this role are:

  • Tertiary qualification in relevant subject eg Communications, Public Relations or related field,

  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in similar role, preferably on major infrastructure projects.

  • An ability to plan, develop and implement communication strategies to achieve project objectives.

  • Demonstrate a capacity to plan and develop community consultation activities and to build effective internal and external relationships

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication; and interpersonal skills, capable of conversing at all levels with both internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong writing skills

  • Strong skills in conflict management and dispute resolution.

  • Strong ability to proactively identify major communications and stakeholder relations issues and developing effective mitigation strategies.

  • Strong community and team focus

  • Strong safety and environmental awareness

  • Awareness of privacy management requirements.
