The Opportunity

ASIO is seeking to fill a number of AE6 Web Designer / Front End Developer roles to provide technical support and maintenance to ASIO's website and intranet. The successful candidate will possess:

  • Creativity;
  • Technical proficiency in web development;
  • Strong communication skills; and,
  • The ability to manage a number of tasks at the same time, and work to deadlines.


The duties of the role include:

  • Designing and developing various types of digital media, imaging, presentations, video, interactive graphics, multimedia and browser-based applications using software tools, utilities and programming language;
  • Providing advice, guidance and assistance in the development and implementation process of online publishing projects for interview and external digital environments;
  • Ongoing management of the website and intranet, communicating with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Testing, debugging, diagnosing and correcting problems to ensure acceptable quality and integrity of the publishing platform/system, ensuring programs and applications perform to specification; and,
  • Providing advice, support and training for content authors across the Organisation. 


Key Attributes

We invite applications from individuals with the following attributes:

  • Minimum 2-3 years' industry experience in designing and developing websites and digital assets;
  • A relevant degree or equivalent work experience (design computing, web development, multimedia, digital media);
  • Coding skills in HTML and CSS;
  • Experience working with Content Management Systems (CMS) e.g. GovCMS/Drupal;
  • Experience working with the Adobe Suite, e.g. Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Indesign, Premiere, After Effects;
  • An appreciation of web design and usability fundamentals, user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design; and,
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Programming skills in PHP and Drupal development skills would be advantageous, but are not essential.

  • An Australian Citizen; and,
  • Assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a Positive Vetting security clearance.

Employment Conditions

Employment is under the ASIO Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging and arrangements are also available.
