About the Department

St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne’s (SVHM) Communications department leads all internal and external communications, including strategic and operational communications, as well as providing advice and tools to help staff across the organisation with their communications needs. The department also manages media liaison and publicity, major business publications, key internal communications projects, organisational-wide events, crisis communications, supports government relations and lobbying, end-to-end content and design, and manages SVHM’s social media channels, intranets and website.

About the Role

The Communications Advisor supports the goals of SVHM by producing compelling, timely and accurate content for external and internal audiences. This position would suit someone who is both a strong writer and is passionate about visual storytelling. Reporting to the General Manager, Media & Communications, the Communications Advisor is responsible for planning, creating and publishing engaging written and visual content, while uncovering stories that demonstrate SVHM’s compassionate care, clinical excellence, and world-leading innovation.

Classification for this position will be a HS3 plus an additional negotiated salary ($74,448 - $80,000 per annum).

Duties

Create engaging written and visual content for the hospital’s digital channels, including social media, while supporting the goals and objectives of SVHM.

Provide communications support, expertise and advice to stakeholders across SVHM.

Contribute to the development and delivery of integrated communications plans.

Identify and contribute to the development and implementation of systems, processes and tools that increase the quality and impact of communications.

Monitor and report on the success of communications for the purpose of continual improvement, including output, channel performance and campaign outcomes.

Work cooperatively with colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment.

Contribute to the work of the broader Communications team.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Tertiary qualifications in communications or related field and relevant work experience within a similar role. At least 2-3 years' experience preferred.

Excellent writing and editing skills combined with a creative flair that can be applied to digital content creation including photography, design and video.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships while working collaboratively in a team environment.

Ability to prioritise tasks and produce high-quality content within tight timeframes.

An understanding of reputation and issues management and the capability to interact with the community online, responsibly representing the views of St Vincent’s.

Problem solving skills with an understanding for how to use metrics to inform continual improvement and identify emerging opportunities.

Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud programs including Photoshop and InDesign, as well as the social media platform Falcon, would be advantageous.
