Western Health is now recruiting Emergency Department Medical Officers!


Serving a growing and diverse multicultural community, our Emergency Departments at Sunshine and Footscray Hospitals manage a broad case mix with access to all major surgical and medical specialties. Collectively the ED’s see over 120 000 patients each year, one of Melbourne’s busiest Emergency Department services.


With a graduated expansion of the Sunshine Emergency Department commencing early 2021 there will be a large uplift in both clinical spaces and workforce. With the New Footscray Hospital to be complete in 2025, Western Health offers exciting opportunities ahead as a place to train and work!


Both Footscray and Sunshine EDs are accredited urban district sites for ACEM training, with access to terms in:


- ICU


- Anaesthetics


- Paediatric EM


- An accredited Simulation Registrar special skills term


- Rotation to the Royal Melbourne Hospital Major Referral/ Trauma experience for Advanced Trainees


We have a well-regarded teaching and exam preparation program, access to numerous ACEM examiners, and terrific exam success for the Fellowship Exam. An active research team supports those interested in research through the Joseph Epstein Centre for Emergency Medicine Research.


The ED Registrar role is most suited to those with at least 3 years postgraduate experience.


The ED Medical officer role is ideal for those with 2+ years post graduate experience, seeking broad emergency experience, without necessarily being committed to a career in ED. It also provides a pathway to complete an EM Certificate or Diploma and transition to an ED Registrar position.
