CFA is one of the largest volunteer-based Emergency Services organisations in the world with 1,220 volunteer brigades serving and protecting communities around Victoria. Volunteer Firefighters are essential to community fire and rescue services and central to our mission to ‘protect lives and property’. A Statutory Authority accountable to the Minister for Emergency Services, CFA is responsible for the delivery of emergency services through its paid and volunteer workforce.
The Manager Workplace Relations will play a critical lead role in the development and strategic alignment of industrial relations strategy, effective negotiation and implementation of Industrial Agreements, and building best-in-class capability to enable CFA’s operations. The role will provide expert input into positive workplace change initiatives, minimising industrial risk, and maintaining effective and constructive relations with key stakeholders including industrial bodies and Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria. It will support the development, implementation and industrial advocacy on initiatives critical to the People and Culture strategic plan including establishing appropriate systems and processes for complaints management, diversity and fairness, member safety and wellbeing, leadership capability, and other initiatives that drive a culture aligned to the values of the organisation.
To be considered for this position you will have extensive practical knowledge of, and experience working in employment law at a senior level within public and private sectors. You will have a strong background establishing, managing and leading a Workplace Relations team within a large and complex operational and service delivery environment. Strong influencing and interpersonal skills are essential as is the ability to negotiate effectively with stakeholders and build trust at all levels. You will have proven experience and capability in supporting organisational and cultural change, business practice reform and productivity management. Applicable tertiary qualifications are essential, and a broad understanding of the Emergency Services sector and environment will be highly regarded.
